About Norman Ackroyd CBE RA

Norman Ackroyd, CBE, RA was born in 1938 in Leeds, North Yorkshire. He studied at the Leeds College of Art from 1956 to 1961, before attending the Royal College of Art, London, from 1961 to 1964. Ackroyd was elected as a Royal Academician in 1991, and was made a Senior Fellow at the Royal College of Art in 2000.

Norman Ackroyd now lives and works in London, but visits the Zillah Bell Gallery several times a year; taking the opportunity to sketch, and ultimately create etchings from, his home county of North Yorkshire.

For any BBC Country File watchers, you may have seen him on their show on 12th February 2017 when he was sketching up by Sutton Bank. He also appeared on ‘What Artist’s Do All Day’ which you can see online here – both shows brilliantly show how he works and the skilled process of creating an etching.

The Zillah Bell Gallery is proud to house the largest collection of works by Norman Ackroyd, CBE, RA outside his studio.

He has had many solo exhibitions and has been showing his work at the Zillah Bell Gallery for over 25 years. The next show we have of his work is ‘Norman Ackroyd CBE RA: Northern Etchings‘ from 3rd May – 6th June 2017.

The Zillah Bell Gallery has both framed and unframed work by Norman Ackroyd, and you can purchase unframed work through the online shop. Please do get in touch for more information on Norman Ackroyd or if you would like to come and see his work.
