John established Sneaton pottery in 1965 after attending Scarborough and Hornsey College of Art.
He produces a wide range of individually decorated one-off functional pieces and works in oxidised stoneware fired in an electric kiln.
His work is mainly thrown but he enjoys the informality of hand-building.
Often his work is decorated by drawing through the glaze when first applied to the pot surface after bisque firing.
He creates various images inspired by the Yorkshire moors and coast.
