Printmaker Kathryn Desforges graduated with a Fine Art degree from Kingston University in 2005, subsequently going on to undertake a year’s artist residency at Intaglio Printmaker, London in 2006 followed by a Post-Graduate Internship at Leicester Print Workshop in 2013. Now based in Yorkshire, Kathryn works from her studio in Leeds, as well as teaching printmaking, and working as Technian and Studio Coordinator at West Yorkshire Print Workshop.
Kathryn’s work explores representations of everyday environments and the spaces we occupy. She draws initial inspiration from real, remembered or imagined spaces and the emotions associated with them, evoking ideas of memory, presence, temporality, physicality, and of capturing a moment. She then uses drawing, collage, photography, film and print as mediums to distil, form and abstract her ideas and imagery, keeping experimentation and making at the core of her practice. The physical act of making is intrinsic in Kathryn’s work.
