Lesley Birch

Lesley Birch was born in Glasgow in 1958.

Her artwork spans landscape and abstract genres. She works in a variety of media including printmaking, oil, acrylic and cold wax. She has exhibited and sold at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Ing Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries, London and in 2016 Lesley was a winner of  the Artist Magazine Award.

Currently Lesley has been exploring and experimenting with new techniques using cold wax medium and is a contributor to a book about these techniques to be published in Spring 2017.  She has recently returned from art residencies in Cape Cornwall and Corris, Wales.  Lesley Birch’s paintings express her feelings and ideas about Time and Place and convey different moods according to the seasons – from uplifting Spring colour to muted, dramatic winter storms.

She sketches and paints outside to record her responses and completes the work in the studio.  Playing with colour and semi-abstraction, she works intuitively – creating lines, scratches, forms and textual elements  as she builds up layers of oil paint creating a history to the piece.
