Mel Davies

Mel Davies

Mel was born in Harrogate in 1956. He studies at Jacob Kramer college of Art in Leeds at an exciting and radical period in the early 1970’s. His artistic ambitions were put on the back burner for a short period of thirty nine years whilst he pursued a career in law, however, his need to create art has never been far from the surface and he continued to illustrate and paint in the interim period. For fifteen years Mel was an Artistic Director of a Leeds based Theatre Company which required large-scale work that provided impact and drama.

Mel has exhibited widely and has works in private collections in the UK, Europe and America.

His artwork is vibrantly colourful, with elements of humour and narrative that draw frequently upon historical and allegorical reference points. Mel’s paintings are not always what they seem to be at first glance.
