MARY FARNELL was born in Brighouse, Yorkshire and educated at the Ilkley Grammar School. She attended Reading University where she studied Fine Art and specialised in painting.

An early interest in printmaking (first in woodcuts and linocuts, later in etching) developed into a major part of her output. Whilst living in Buckinghamshire for 24 years, Mary exhibited in London and local galleries. On returning to Yorkshire in 1982, the vernacular architecture and the local landscape became a main source of inspiration for her output of drawings, paintings and prints. Other subjects include the coastline and gardens.

Since returning to Yorkshire, Mary has exhibited in a number of northern galleries and has been a regular exhibitor at Zillah Bell Gallery.
