Norman Ackroyd CBE RA – Fragments

8th December - 12th January

Main Gallery

‘Fragments of poetry and music continuously inhabit my inner ear. Many that have been lying dormant for years are triggered to the surface by circumstance – and frequently when I am working ‘plain air”. – Norman Ackroyd CBE RA.

Open until 12th January, with the Private View on 13th December 2018, this incredible exhibition shows twelve new etchings that celebrate places which have had a profound effect on the artist and illustrate a personal journey guided by the poetry and music that continue to inspire him.

‘As is usual, I find that a poet has already described my thesis with poetic economy. W H Auden, a fellow Yorkshireman, in this poem ‘Epistle to a Godson’ wrote:

“…to give a stunning

display of concinnity and elegance

is the least one can do, and its dominant

mood should be that of a Carnival.”‘ – Norman Ackroyd CBE RA.
