Collection: Ethereal Echoes - Deborah Grice and Andrew Tyzack - 6 - 20 April 2024

6 - 20 April 2024

Deborah Grice and Andrew Tyzack are fellow RCA graduates and have been married for 22 years.  This two artist show is their first exhibition together as a couple and in it, both artists are seeking to express the fragility of the natural world in their work.

Deborah uses traditional materials in her art to depict bucolic landscapes but she then incorporates contemporary shapes that ensure her painting is pertinent for today.  In her own words: "We live in such changing and volatile times - yet mostly, landscape holds us and stays the same".

Andrew jokingly refers to his practice as 'The School of Anorak', a reference to his meticulous approach to painting whole hives of bees in obsessive, taxonomic detail. He renders the pile of the bumblebees' coats in their specific patterns and colours like miniature Mark Rothko paintings.  Presented in order of species and caste, he seeks to highlight the bee's importance as pollinator and its importance in our fragile world.
